Shortage brings vehicular traffic to a halt

LAHORE - The fuel shortage has affected the flow of vehicular traffic in the province. Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Ijaz A Mumtaz said that in a statement here on Friday.

He urged the departments concerned to take immediate measures to restore supply of petroleum products as the shortage is not only causing undue damage to trade and economic activities but also hitting the general public hard. He said business doing people were facing loss as movement of their finished goods and raw material was almost suspended due to non-availability of fuel. The LCCI president said a main reason of petroleum shortage was circular debt of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) that had been increased to over 200 billion reportedly

Ijaz said that petrol shortage had badly affected daily wagers besides hitting the agriculture sector as high speed diesel was being used in agriculture machinery and tubwells. He said process of cultivation and irrigation through diesel-operated tubewells was about to stop. The LCCI president demanded the government to release funds for PSO to ease the circular debt and make it able to purchase fuel. He demanded of the government to take corrective measures to curtail circular debt of PSO that had not only created fuel shortage in the country but was also the reason of massive load shedding.
