Siraj blames corrupt government for economic problems of Sindh
GHARO: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Ameer, Siraj-ul-Haq said on Sunday that a change in the system was needed in order to arrest the economic and social problems within Sindh.The politician was in the area to offer his condolences on the death of Mufti Ashraf Chandio. He said that the Mufti’s services would always be remembered, adding that he had been a teacher and mentor to thousands of Ulema.
JI leaders Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, Asadullah Bhutto, Ghaffar Umer, Molvi Atta-ur-Rehman and others were also present on the occasion.
Speaking afterwards, Haq said that the Pakistan People’s Party, who were ruling Sindh, had done nothing for the province in their many years of administration. He pointed out that it was due to their corrupt practices that there were so many jobless youths wasting their time.
The JI leader highlighted that the PPP’s government did not compel multinational companies working in interior Sindh districts to provide welfare and infrastructural development to the locals. He pointed out that the districts of Badin, Thatta, Sanghar, Khairpur and Ghotiki were among the poorest regions in the country, though they were rich in resources like oil and gas.
Haq said that the companies in these areas did not even provide jobs to the local people and the government was complicit with them in exploiting the locals.
He called the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects the only ray of hope for Pakistan. The senator said that CPEC’s projects would prove beneficial for all the provinces though he highlighted Karachi as being in need of special focus in development. He said that even though the city was the economic hub of Pakistan, its development was still ignored by both the provincial and federal governments.
He urged his audience to stand up to the government’s corrupt actions saying that Islam did not oppose resistance against these practices by any measure.
