Rain-related incidents claim four lives in Karachi

KARACHI: At least four people died and five injured in the metropolis due to rain-related incidents during last 24 hours, officials and rescue sources said Saturday.

As the city witnessed a spell of rain on Friday, four people lost their lives due to electrocution and road accidents across Karachi. Two people were killed in Nazimabad, one was electrocuted in the city's Korangi area and at Bufferzone.

Traffic jams were witnessed across the city owing to the large amount of flood which had accumulated on Karachi's roads. Citizens were faced with extreme difficulty as public transport was scarce on the road and taxis as well as rickshaws were charging exorbitant amounts due to the rain.

Online transportation services such as Careem and Uber's fares had also increased in order to bring more cars onto the road.

According to K-Electric spokesperson, the teams managed to restore power supply in affected areas amid continuous spell of rain.

“K-Electric teams remained active and overall power supply system remained intact on Saturday as city continued to experience recurring spells of rain.”


K-Electric field teams and customer call centre remained operational round the clock to ensure supply in the cosmopolitan, he added.

The power utility also urged the citizens to stay away from broken wires, poles and transformers.

It may be noted here that around 180 K-Electric feeders had tripped due to the rain in the metropolis.

Rain recorded in Karachi's Faisal Base area was 22 millimeters, North Nazimabad received 25 millimeters while PAF Masroor Base received 41 millimeters of rainfall.
