751,986 IDPs from North Waziristan so far registered

ISLAMABAD - The government has so far registered around 751,986 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) moved from North Waziristan Agency due to ongoing operation against terrorists.

Final figures would be available after the verification from NADRA to cut any duplication depriving the deserving IDPs of their plight. Besides Bannu District, IDPs from NWA have moved to D.I Khan District, Lakki Marwat District, Karak District, Hangu district while seven per cent moved to areas all over the country.

NADRA had established four registration points including Sports Complex Bannu, Government College Mamash Khel, Teacer training Institute Ghoria Wala and Durrani College. Four mobile vans are also providing registration facilities to IDPs. Two distribution points have also been established at DI Khan and Lakki Marwat.

Around 82 families consisting of 575 individuals entered Kurram Agency via Khost Afghanistan from North Waziristan Agency while 736 families consisting of 9,440 individual IDPs of NWA have passed district Kohat and migrate to other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Around 2791 IDPs individuals have arrived in Karak district and accommodated. Around 772 families have reached district Hangu via Kurran Bridge Thall out of which 402 families have migrated to other districts while 370 families have been accommodated in district Hangu.

The commissioner of Bannu division had been declared as focal person at Bannu. Tactical Headquarter of 45 engineers division has been established at Peshawar for better co-ordination. The federal government sanctioned Rs one million to-date. The amount has been transferred to FDMA and Rs 300 million onward to Bannu.

Another summary was moved seeking approval of Prime Minister for sanction of Rs 3490 million for relief operation and release of Rs 1000 million out of this amount on immediate basis. Prime Minister approved another Rs 500 million to FDMA and the amount has been handover to FDMA.

An additional amount of Rs 3000 as accommodation rent has been approved by the federal government to be distributed in addition to Rs 120,000 per family while Rs 20,000 Ramazan package has also been approved for each family.

A committee has been constituted for cash distribution consisting of members including DG FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) Peshawar or his representative, Commander 101 Air Defense Brigade or his representative, Abbas Khan Commissioner Afghan Refugees Islamabad or his representative, Deputy Commissioner Bannu or his representative, Mir Ali Assistant political agent North Waziristan agency or his representative.

An amount of Rs 343, 392 million has been distributed amongst 28,616 families at the rate of 12,000 per family till July 5. For disbursement of cash Zong has distributed 17,846 SIMs to IDPs out of which 15,716 have been activated.

Vaccination of 17,659 animals and 30,545 poultry has been carried out. Five large shelter tents have been established, one dispensary, two ambulances are at the camps site besides two doctors' one male and one female. Around 10 lady police have been deployed, 700 tents have been pitched and 1000 are available at site.

50 KVA transformers are installed, electrification completed, while generator is also standby. Twenty five washrooms and toilets constructed. Water storage for 7200 gallons including one tube well is also available.

DMDA has provided 2000 tents for relief. PASSCO has released 25,000 MT of wheat to WFP for continued operation. This will cater for the need of food security till end of September 2014.

Government of Punjab has provided food security assistance with Rs 100 million. 50 trucks arrived in Bannu and handed over to DC.

Fifty relief collection points have been established all over the country by the army. Distribution of food package commenced from June 25 and till date 16,406 food baskets have been distributed.

Around 11 tons fodder for cattle has been purchased by army and the animals are being vaccinated in the camps. Health department KPK is coordinating the health care of IDPs. FDMA has deployed for mobile hospitals along with doctors and lady doctors. So far 85,000 children had been vaccinated with polio vaccines. Field hospital at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital Bannu has been established by Army and is operational.

On the request of Ministry of SAFRON, WFP has allocated 60,000 food baskets at stores of Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan and 15 trucks of food baskets have been shifted to Bannu for distribution. Around 16,989 food packets have been distributed till July 3.

On request, Norwegian refugees committee has allocated 2,000 NFI kits and has placed order for another 10000. To date 13,078 kits have been distributed. DFID has pledged two million US. ECHO (EU) has pledged 1 million US and Norway 0.5 million US to NRC for NWA IDPs.

United Nations country team in Pakistan has been sensitized to expand their current IDPs operation to North Waziristan. Government of UAE has pledged an amount Rs 2.5 million for the relief operation and 13 trucks have reached Bannu.
