PPP said Musharraf should be provided safe passage, says Rashid
LAHORE: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said the then governing PPP had told his party PML-N that former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf should be provided safe passage.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Rashid said Yousaf Raza Gilani had not said that Nawaz Sharif was on board with this decision and the PML-N had not given Musharraf safe passage.
On Thursday, Gillani told reporters in Karachi that Musharraf had resigned after promises had been made of his ‘honourable exit’ and the PML-N was a part of these discussions.
The information minister added that Musharaff himself had not claimed of receiving a safe passage. Rashid further said if there was such an agreement, Musharraf should present it in court.
When asked about Arsalan Iftikhar approaching the Election Commission of Pakistan seeking he disqualification of Imran Khan, Rashid told reporters the PML-N had no deal with the son of the former chief justice.
Rashid appealed to Imran Khan to not keep a PTI rally on August 14 and play his role in strengthening Pakistan. Rashid further said a decision to hold a rally on August 14 by the PML-N was made a year ago and invited other political parties of the country to attend.
On the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan, the information minister said the military will be provided whatever they require in the war against terrorism.
