PPP itself divided on Musharraf deal issue: Pervaiz Rashid

LAHORE: Federal Information Minister, Pervaiz Rashid Sunday said PML-N would not be a party to any move against the constitution and the law.

In reference to the statement of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani regarding a deal with Musharraf, Pervaiz Rashid said that the PPP leaders were divided over the issue regarding a deal with Musharra; while Musharraf himself has denied making any deal.

He added that his party would not be associated with any move, which was not in consonance with the constitution and the law.


Talking to the media after a function here, federal information minister said that statements by PPP leaders regarding giving a safe exit to Musharraf were contradictory, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has already made its stance on the issue clear and, therefore, the debate on the issue should wrap up now, he suggested.

Responding to a question, Pervaiz Rashid said the terrorists had taken the people of Waziristan hostage in their houses for the last 13/14 years, but the government will not rest until they were rehabilitated back in their houses free from the terrorists.

The information minister said no government was ever miserly in meeting the defence needs of the country and added the people always make sacrifices for meeting defence needs.

Replying to another question, Pervaiz Rashid said he loves media and added that a powerful and independent media was essential for democracy. He said Geo was punished by PEMRA, they suffered the punishment and this matter should also end now.
