PPP former MPA acquitted in dual nationality case

LAHORE: District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad on Tuesday acquitted former Pakistan People’s Party MPA Amina Buttar in a dual nationality case filed by the Election Commission. Election Commission had lodged a complaint against Amina Buttar saying that the former MPA had contested the 2008 polls and concealed details about her dual nationality. The commission pleaded the court to take legal action against her for possessing dual citizenship. However, Amina Buttar’s counsel Rashid Javed Lodhi submitted that his client did not conceal details about dual nationality. If the commission had asked her about dual nationality then his client should have given details regarding it, he contended. He pointed out that the Commission’s form did not have any block about dual nationality details. The court after hearing arguments acquitted the former MPA.
