Pakistan, India foreign secretaries to meet in Islamabad on Aug 25

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Affairs Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and his Indian counterpart Sujatha Singh will meet in Islamabad on August 25 following a telephonic conversation between the two diplomats to carry forward the dialogue process.

India’s External Affairs secretary spoke to Aizaz Ahmad over the telephone to confirm the meeting that could lead to resumption of the peace process suspended since January last year. Sharing details of the telephonic conversation, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said it was agreed that the two secretaries will meet in Islamabad on August 25 to carry forward the dialogue process.

Keeping in view the vision of the two prime ministers – Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi who met in New Delhi this year – the two foreign secretaries were holding meeting to improve and establish good neighbourly relations, the spokesperson said. The two secretaries agreed that the dialogue process between the two countries should be result-oriented, she said.

The meeting holds significance as it comes after an array of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in the disputed state of Jammu Kashmir. The Indian side admitted that any ceasefire violation would hamper the peace process between the two countries.
