Rathore challenges his sacking from PEMRA
INP

ISLAMABAD – Pervez Rathore, a former acting chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on Thursday challenged his removal from the authority at the Supreme Court.

On July 15, the Islamabad High Court had suspended the notification for the appointment of Rathore as the acting PEMRA chief. Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the high court issued these directions during the hearing over the contempt of court petition, filed by Israr Abbasi, private member of the authority.

The petition had contended that Rathore was functioning despite the IHC’s June 9 orders. In his petition, Rathore said that he was appointed by the prime minister under the law so no violation was committed in his appointment process. He said that the high court verdict of his sacking was tantamount to interfering in the prime minister’s authority.

He requested the Supreme Court to issue directions, declaring the high court order null and void and restoring him on the erstwhile position.
