COAS celebrates Eid in Waziristan

RAWALPINDI: General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited South and North Wazirastan Agencies to celebrate Eid with Troops on the front lines and stayed overnight at Wana Camp, South Wazirastan Agency.

An ISPR statement said COAS General Raheel offered Eid prayers at Wana and met with all troops and exchanged greetings. COAS also visited Eidak, North Waziristan, met troops and exchanged Eid greetings. At Eidak, COAS also met TDPs who have safely returned to their homes.

COAS was briefed by Operational Commanders on progress of operation Zarb-e-Azb. COAS expressed his complete satisfaction over the phenomenal progress and achievements on the ground so far.

Later during the visit, while interacting with troops, COAS appreciated their high state of morale, courage and determination in execution of the operation. COAS said while defending the motherland, staying away from our homes and families is a military tradition that we cherish and are proud of.

COAS said the overwhelming support and trust of our nation in their armed forces is our biggest asset. Our nation stands united today behind us in accomplishing any mission assigned to us, and we will never let them down.

Paying rich tributes to Shuhada (martyrs) and the wounded, who rendered supreme sacrifice for defence of the country, COAS said we can never forget them specially at this revered occasion of Eid. Their best remembrance is not to let their sacrifice go waste. These
handful of terrorists are on the run and will not find any place to hide.

COAS said that alongside FATA, proactive counter terrorism operation in urban areas by law enforcement agencies are producing desired effects. Our equal focus will now remain on finding terror financing, choking all their sources and apprehending all financiers, abettors and sympathizers

Later, COAS visited TDP Camp Bannu to spend time with tribal brethren from North Wazirtistan. COAS assured them of the wholehearted support and commitment of the Army and the nation in providing them not only relief but in executing an ultimate resettlement plan for them.

He emphasized that we are long time partners in peace building in the erstwhile troubled FATA regions. He directed all agencies involved in return process to ensure a timely repatriation and a better quality development work.

Earlier on arrival, he was received at Wana by Peshawar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Hidayat ur Rehman.
