Govt not looking for apology over judicial commission findings: Dar
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar said Friday that the government does not want anyone to apologise over the judicial commission's report which rejected allegations by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that the 2013 general elections were rigged.
Last year, the Imran Khan-led PTI had led countrywide demonstrations and a large sit-in protest in front of parliament for several months to try to force Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from power, it had been robbed of victory in the ballot by a shadowy conspiracy involving poll officials and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N).
But in its final report released Thursday, a three-judge inquiry commission rejected claims of massive rigging by the PTI, saying the polls were largely fair and in accordance with the law.
Speaking to reporters here today, senior PML-N leader Dar invited the PTI to work together with the ruling party for the betterment of the country.
"They (the PTI) are part of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms and they should play their role in the committee. All challenges faced by Pakistan including economy, energy, or extremism, we should unite and solve them together," said Dar.
We are ready to even amend the Constitution for electoral reforms if needed, said Dar.
"I believe the prime minister's speech yesterday was a clear invitation (for political parties) to come together and face their challenges together for the country," he added.
