Govt asked to construct Kalabagh Dam to avoid floods
Elahi sees mega dam a permanent solution of all crises

LAHORE –Former deputy prime minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Friday asked the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to construct mega Kalabagh Dam for prosperity and ensuring safety from floods.

In a statement issued here, he said that construction of the Kalabagh Dam was immediate and permanent solution of overcoming electricity crisis, water shortage for irrigation and massive losses of hundreds of precious human lives, crops and properties in all four provinces every year.

He expressed heartfelt sympathies to the flood-hit people throughout Pakistan and said that the rulers in Punjab have not done anything this year also for controlling floods so that poor people were living under open sky in Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Alipur and other areas.

Paying rich tributes to the military leadership for carrying out relief and rescue operation in flood-hit areas, he said that the rulers should do something practical instead of mere announcements. He said the rain and flood water could be stored and used for development and prosperity of Pakistan.
