Polling ends for PP-100 by-election in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: Polling has ended in Gujranwala Sunday at the Punjab Assembly’s PP-100 seat, which was vacated after the murder of MPA Rana Shamshad Khan from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

A close contest is expected between the candidates fielded by the two top parties, the PML-N and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The seat was vacated after the murder of PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Khan. The PML-N has fielded Rana Akhtar Ali Khan, the brother of deceased MPA Rana Shamshad Ali Khan, while the PTI has fielded Ehsanullah Virk and PPP Rana Shahbaz Ahmad Khan.

As many as 162,444 voters are registered in the constituency while 113 polling stations have been set-up for the polls. A total 3,000 policemen have been deployed to maintain peace during balloting.
