ISLAMABAD – Foreign Office said on Thursday that the second round of peace talks between representatives of Afghan government and Taliban has been postponed in view of reports regarding the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar and resulting uncertainty.

The second round of the talks was scheduled to be held in Pakistan on Friday. A Foreign Office statement issued here said that the talks had been postponed on the request of the Afghan Taliban leadership. The statement said that Pakistan and other friendly countries of Afghanistan hoped that the Taliban leadership would stay engaged in the process of peace talks in order to promote a lasting peace in Afghanistan.

It was further hoped that those forces, which due to their nefarious designs wanted to undermine the peace talks, would not succeed in their designs.
