Nawaz advises JUI-F, MQM to withdraw motions against PTI
* PM constitutes four-member committee to convince leadership of both parties to review their stand on motions against PTI MNAs

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday advised Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and representatives of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) to review their stand on motions against PTI MNAs and requested them to withdraw the motions.

He said that the political leadership of the country had great responsibility to work for the collective good of the country while pursuing their respective party policies.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with parliamentary heads of the National Assembly and Senate at the Parliament House. He thanked the parliamentary leadership of the country for showing the resolve and remaining steadfast for the supremacy of constitution and democracy.

The prime minister said that nation had moved forward in its democratic journey and unity of the political leadership to safeguard national interest would be a significant factor in the evolution of political process.

The parliamentary heads congratulated the prime minister on showing political magnanimity after issuance of report of the inquiry commission and termed its findings a success of the democratic process.

The meeting deliberated on the motions moved by JUI-F and MQM against the MNAs of PTI. Most of the parliamentary heads, excluding JUI-F and MQM, expressed their opinion in favour of withdrawal of motions against the PTI MNAs. The prime minister further elaborated that after the report of the inquiry commission, the government was fully focusing on development and prosperity of the country and was committed to solving the problems of the people. The prime minister expressed that he was very hopeful that the national political leadership would leave behind the bitter experiences of the past and embark on a new beginning to strengthen democracy.

The leaders of JUI-F and MQM in their response informed the prime minister that they would come back after consultation with their respective party leadership and communicate the party policy about motions against the PTI.

Meanwhile, the prime minister has constituted a four-member committee comprising Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Affairs Irfan Siddique.

He directed the committee to contact the leadership of JUI-F and MQM and convince them to withdraw their motions against the PTI MNAs.

Parliamentary heads and representatives of political parties included Khurshid Shah, Fazlur Rehman, Senator Sirajul Haq, Abdul Rashid Godil, Khalid Maqbool, Kanwar Navid Jamil, Senator Mushahid Hussain, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Muhammad Ijazul Haq, Dr Gazi Gulab Jamal, Mehmood Khan Achackzai and Ghaus Bakhsh Mahar.
