President urges bureaucracy to ensure public welfare

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday urged the civil servants to fulfil their responsibilities diligently and ensure corruption-free governance in the country.

Addressing a luncheon hosted for the newly promoted officers to BPS-22 at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president congratulated the officers and said their promotion places great responsibility on them to work for the welfare of masses.

He called on the civil servants to take decisions in the best interest of state and nation. He underscored that civil servants must strive to ensure rules-based governance and also learn to refuse the orders from high-ups which contradict the rules and law. He urged the civil servants to take steps for the betterment and welfare of public at large.

President Mamnoon said the country had embarked upon a journey of development with the launch of several projects including the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), motorways, power and gas development initiatives, and Gwadar port that would generate employment opportunities for millions.

He regretted that corruption had taken roots in the society and said that every officer, in whatever field he or she is working, should point out and discourage the corrupt practices. He wished the newly promoted officers all the best in their careers.

The newly promoted officers who attended the luncheon include Malik Asrar Hussain, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Babar, Syed Khalid Akhlaq Gilani, Fazal Abbas Mekan, Khizar Hayat Khan and Arifa Saboohi (Pakistan Administrative Service), Muhammad Azam (Information Group), Manak Sher Idrees, Najeebullah Khan, Asif Ali and Shabbir Ahmed (Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service).

The officers attending the event also included Muhammad Khalid Qureshi (Police Service of Pakistan), Fiza Muzaffar, Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Abdur Rehman Dogar and Sameera Yasin (Inland Revenue Service), Lutfullah Virk (Pakistan Custom Service), Muhammad Javaid Anwar (Pakistan Railways), Fakir Syed Shaharyar (Pakistan Postal Group), Abdul Sattar Jajja (Secretariat Group) and Raja Nadir Ali (Military Lands and Cantonments Group).
