PM, KP’s CM grieved over losses in Chitral floods

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Sunday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives caused by damage to the houses and washing away of mosque while people were offering prayer in Ursoon area of Chitral on Saturday night due to flash floods following heavy rains.

According to a PM House statement, the prime minister prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the martyred souls with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable losses.

He also directed the National Disaster Management Authority and other federal rescue and relief agencies to recover those stranded due to the floods in Chitral and speed up rescue and relief activities in the area.

The prime minister also directed the authorities concerned to keep him updated on the situation.

Earlier, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pervaiz Khattak and governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the flood and announced 0.3 million compensation for the families of each of those deceased.

The chief minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure the soonest recovery of the missing people.

KP governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra also offered condolences to the victims’ families and ordered the concerned departments to accelerate the relief work.
