PPP may rethink its stance against street politics if ToRs not accepted: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday approached the opposition over the issue of terms of reference that would form a judicial commission to probe offshore companies owned by Pakistanis named in the Panama Papers.

Information Minister Pervez Rashid held a meeting with leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah to discuss the ToRs, a source told Geo News.

Pervez Rasheed asked the opposition leader for names that could be placed in the parliamentary committee.

Speaking to the media, Khursheed Shah said that the government should accept the opposition’s ToRs without changing a word.

He added that the Pakistan People’s Party wanted to refrain from street politics. “But if the government does not change its stance we will have to rethink our decision,” he said.

He said that the prime minister in his speech to the nation had presented himself for accountability. “But now the government is buying time by declaring every sort of criticism as a conspiracy hatched against it.”

Deadlock persisted between the government and opposition over ToRs during a meeting held on Friday. The committee will meet again on Tuesday at 3 PM.

Members of the opposition had decried that the government was not serious over a probe on the Panama Leaks.
