IHC turns down bail plea of Imran Farooq’s murder suspect Moazzam

ISLAMABAD: The suspect of Imran Farooq’s murder case Moazzam had filed an appeal for bail which has been turned down by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

The decision was taken on June 1 but IHC decided to announce it later on Monday. Suspect Moazzam's lawyer had argued that Dr Imran Farooq's murder had been committed in London and the FIR against his client had been registered after five years.

The same thing has been stated in the appeal made by Moazzam so that he could get the bail stating that he wasn’t involved in Imran’s murder.

Dr Imran Farooq was found murdered on September 17, 2010 outside his London flat. According to an autopsy report by the British police, Farooq had been murdered by two men who had attacked him with a knife and a brick.

The victim, Dr Imran Farooq, was the senior head of the political party MQM. After fleeing the country like most of the party's senior leadership in 1992, he had sought political refuge in the United Kingdom and was settled there.

Last month, a Scotland Yard delegation had arrived in Pakistan and met with FIA's Shahid Hayat regarding the murder of Dr Imran Farooq. The case was discussed and proof pertaining to suspected money laundering by MQM leadership was also reportedly shared during the meeting.
