Mirwaiz urges Pakistan, India to include Kashmiris in talks

SRINAGAR: The Hurriyet Forum Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in occupied Kashmir, has said that no breakthrough is possible in Pakistan-India relations
without involvement of Kashmiris in the dialogue process for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was reacting to Indian Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj’s statement that India wants to resolve all issues with Pakistan through bilateral talks.

In a statement from Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that the Hurriyet leadership and people of Kashmir had always stood for better relations between New Delhi and Islamabad and the settlement of all the pending issues through dialogue. However, regarding the Kashmir dispute, no breakthrough is expected without the involvement of Kashmiris as it involves their political future and aspirations, he added.

The Hurriyet leader expressed the hope that the leadership of both the countries would recognise the reality and evolve proper mechanism to include the people of Kashmir and Hurriyet leadership in any ensuing dialogue process over Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is also head of Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC), on the occasion of its 52nd Founding Day, said that the organisation had always represented the wishes and aspirations of the people.

While addressing a gathering of AAC leaders, activists and delegates from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir at party headquarters in Srinagar Mirwaiz said, “The role of AAC leadership in the ongoing struggle for the right to self-determination and sacrifices of its workers is an illuminating chapter in Kashmir’s contemporary history.”

He termed the election process in the territory as a futile exercise and said the Hurriyet has in the past rejected the process, as Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, the future of which has to be decided by the people of the land as per their wishes and aspirations.

On the occasion, the Mirwaiz also released a book ‘Nida-e-Hurriyet’, a compilation of sermons of martyred Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq.
