Bilawal chairs emergency meeting on law and order

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday held an emergency meeting to discuss the law and order situation in Karachi.

The meeting, held at Bilawal House, was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, provincial home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, IG Sindh police A D Khawaja, Jameel Soomro Political Secretary to the Chairman, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed that utilization of latest technology gadgets and communication tools was necessary to improve policing and make the city safer for both its residents and the visitors. Common people should be enabled to approach Police and other law enforcing agencies without any hindrances. An open-door policy upto the SP and DIG level may be adopted, he added.

He further said that Home Minister and IGP Sindh should hold media briefings on law and order on fortnightly bases to apprise the general public about the steps and efforts being taken by the provincial government to provide peaceful environment for the citizens.

Earlier, the Home Minister and IGP briefed the PPP Chairman about the law and order situation. Barring the two incidents of kidnapping of Chief Justice, Sindh High Court’s son Awais Shah and killing of Amjad Sabri, the situation previously was relatively peaceful.

Ratio of heinous crimes, including kidnapping for ransom had dropped to zero in both rural and urban areas of Sindh, they stated.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari admired the role of Sindh Police and other law enforcing agencies and stressed that all the government machinery should work closely to foil the attempts by criminals and anti-state elements to destroy peace.
