ISLAMABAD: The federal government has started efforts to evolve consensus among federating units for celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr across the country on the same day.

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has started efforts by contacting religious scholars of various school of thoughts for this purpose. According to official sources, the ministry is planning to convene the meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Peshawar instead of Lahore for sighting the moon of Shawal.

He also met several Ulema and religious scholars including Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai of Qasim Khan Mosque, located in Peshawar, for ensuring a single date that starts Ramzan-ul-Mubarak.
