Rain in Karachi brings relief to heat-stricken people

KARACHI: Karachi received second spell of monsoon rains on Wednesday that significantly reduced heatwave and provided some relief to the citizens from the heat.

The rain not only reduced heat but also cleansed trees and atmosphere. Every one was seen happy, as children and youth bathed in the rainfall and enjoyed it.

Today, the rain was received in North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Saddar, Defence and other areas.

However, the rains caused traffic jams in some areas of the city. Several low lying areas and roads were inundated that caused some trouble to commuters and residents.

The metropolis also received moderate rainfall on Tuesday evening with reports of lightning and thunderstorm in some of its parts.

After the today and last evening rains, a number feeders of K-Electric tripped, causing power outages in many areas include North Karachi, New Karachi, Orangi Town and Pahar Ganj and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

On Tuesday evening, Met Office ´s observatory at Old Airport area had recorded 31 millimetres of rain till 8.20 pm. Karachi´s Nazimabad area had received 4.2 millimetres of rain.

KMC has directed all its departments to ensure all necessary arrangements to tackle monsoon rains across the city.

The city is likely to receive occasional rain for one to two days, the Met official said.
