PM Nawaz briefed on nuclear power programme

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday was given a briefing on the country’s nuclear power programme by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission here at the PM House. In the course of the briefing, the prime minister said the government was taking all possible measures to address energy shortage in the country and was focussing on all areas including getting energy through nuclear sources. The matters relating to K-2 and K-3 power projects as well as future projects, which were being planned, came under discussion. The prime minister said provision of funds for these projects would be arranged in line with the Nuclear Power Programme Vision 2050. Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif; Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar; Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood; and Strategic Plans Division (SPD) DG were present during the meeting. Meanwhile, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashad Mahmood called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday. Professional matters relating to the armed forces of Pakistan and the overall national security situation came under discussion during the meeting, a statement from the PM House said.
