Khursheed criticizes govt for last minute ordinance for FATA Senate elections

INP

ISLAMABAD - Criticising the government for issuing the presidential ordinance, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Thursday stated that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N government has created a new history in ‘horse trading’ by introducing this ordinance at the eleventh hour. Talking to media in Islamabad, he said the government issued this ordinance because it will only serve their interest. He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take notice and declare this ordinance illegal. “Rules cannot be altered once election schedule is issued,” he said. He said it was disappointing how the government issued an ordinance on election procedure for FATA seats in Senate without consulting the opposition and other political parties. He said that all these issues have raised a question mark over the entire election process for the Senate. “Only assembly where polling is progressing smoothly is the Sindh assembly, where we are in power,” he said. Pakistan People’s Party’s leader said that the federal government has itself made Senate polls ‘controversial.
