ISLAMABAD - Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif has said that ties between Pakistan and India can improve if they work sincerely. In his exclusive interview with BBC, the minister said that extraordinary increase in Indian defence budget shows its intentions, adding that other regional countries will follow the suit. He said that increase in Indian defence budget is cause of concern for all regional countries. He said that India is snatching meal from the mouth of poor by increasing its defence budget extraordinarily. He termed the enhancement as unproductive which stresses other countries to follow the same policy. In response to a question that the government is taking action against those militant groups which challenge state’s writ, the minister said that extremist organisations cannot be eradicated unless we eliminate fundamentalism, Radio Pakistan reported. He said that all these groups are different forms of the same evil and all need to be eliminated. When asked whether Pakistan too will increase its defence budget, the minister said that it will be decided at the time of the budget session of the assembly. He further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is focusing on economic growth.
