Rabbani urges political parties to stand united

ISLAMABAD – Senator nominated for Upper House Chairman Raza Rabbani on Wednesday called upon political parties to stand united for fighting the challenge of terrorism.

“It is the time to stand united to fight the menace of terrorism. It is also time for political parties to purge themselves of extremist elements,” he remarked in the Senate speaking on a point of order regarding action on Muttahida Qaumi Movement Secretariat in Karachi.

“It was an unpleasant incident. Pakistan People’s Party always struggled for sanctity of the offices of political parties although the PPP had been victim of such action in dictatorial regimes,” he added. Rabbani, who is going to be elected the Senate chairman, said if the Rangers had any information about anybody's hiding over there; they would have taken the MQM leadership into confidence.

“The MQM has repeatedly asserted that it had no connection with any extremist. It had very clearly stated in Baldia Town tragedy that it had no connection to culprits.” He said in this case also if the MQM had been taken into confidence, they definitely would have cooperated. “But raid at the MQM office is an action which cannot be supported by any politician or a political party.”
