Repatriation of South Waziristan IDPs begins today

PESHAWAR: The process of repatriation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan Agency will begin today and in this regard Pakistan Army and Political Officials the tribal agency have finalized the preparations.

Officials sources said registration of 41,170 people of 4,937 families have been completed and in the first phase, affectees present at Kor Qila area of district Tank will be repatriated to different localities of Serwekai area of South Waziristan.

Each returning family will be paid Rs 25,000 cash assistance and Rs 10,000 as travelling charges.

Over 400,000 families moved to Tank and Dera Ismail Khan due to Operation Rah-e-Nijat against terrorists in South Waziristan in October 2009.
