Govt to establish universities at every nook, corner of country: Ahsan
Minister says access to higher education to be made possible for all citizens at their door step

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Planing and Development said on Wednesday that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government was fully cognizant about the importance of education and aimed at establishing universities in every nook and corner of Pakistan.

Speaking as a chief guest in the inaugural session of the second conference of Pakistan Chapter of The Talloires Network (PCTN) at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), he said that access to higher education would be made possible for all citizens at their door step. He said that the vision 2025 was seriously being pursued by the government.

“It is the need of the time is to strengthen education sector of Pakistan as the power of classrooms and laboratories is the only defining feature in the competition-driven world today,” he added. The theme for the conference was ‘Sustainable Development Solutions and Action Plans for Universities and their Youth’. Heads of different member universities across the country, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, academics and a large number of students attended the conference.

Rector NUST Engr Muhammad Asghar welcomed the guests to the conference and hoped that it would go a long way in the development of sustainable solutions. He said that the objectives of PCTN were very much aligned to that of Vision 2025. A number of other prominent speakers addressed the day-long conference divided into two sessions: the first being on Education and Skill Development for Poverty Reduction in Pakistan, while the latter focused on Energy Conservation and Finding Alternate Sources for Pakistan.

On the occasion, Akhtar Hameed Khan Awards were given to four universities that had sent their nominations with regard to civic engagement projects.
