Govt striving hard to enhance water storage capacity: Abid
Minister says PM released billion of rupees for constructing Diamer-Bhasha dam

ISLAMABAD – State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Wednesday said that maximum efforts were underway to enhance water storage capacity in the country to meet agriculture needs of Pakistan.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Shaista Pervaiz, he said that the prime minister has released billion of rupees for completing the acquisition of land for constructing Diamer-Bhasha dam. He said that Pakistan needed at least 147 million acre feet storage.

Kalabagh dam has been made controversial. Consensus has to be evolved with the provinces for constructing more dams. Bhasha Dam would help enhancing the storage capacity of water. The funds have already been released for constructing Munda Dam,” he said.

He said that the government has arranged a conference on water conservation to enhance awareness. Earlier, the mover of the calling attention notice, Shaista Pervaiz expressed her concerns about looming water shortage and stressed measures for avoiding such situation in future.

Meanwhile, speaking on a point of order, Siraj Muhammad Khan said that passport office, already approved for Noshera should be activated immediately to facilitate the people. Maulana Gohar Shah condemned blasts in Lahore churches. Qari Muhammad Yousaf said women staff should be deployed in the office of Nadra at Battagram.

Ayaz Soomro said flight operation should be initiated from Larkana to Mohenjo-daro. He complained in Larkana load shedding of 16 hours daily has made the life of the citizens difficult. Sher Akbar Khan said the salary of security guards deployed at phone towers have been slashed by half. Eng Usman Tarakai said Swabi passport office should be activated as soon as possible.
