Legal hitches delay Uzair Baloch's extradition to Pakistan
DUBAI: Legal difficulties have restrained Pakistani police officials in Dubai from getting custody of Lyari gang-war prime suspect Uzair Baloch, while diplomatic sources say his extradition to Pakistan may be delayed by weeks.
A team of Pakistani police officials is currently in Dubai, but sources told Geo News on Friday that the officials were yet unable to provide sufficient legal evidence to secure custody of the banned Peoples Aman Committee's (PAC) leader from authorities in UAE.
The sources further said that the special police team may end up returning unsuccessfully to Pakistan in the next 72 hours.
The legal difficulties faced by the Pakistani team may even delay Uzair's handover by several weeks, they added.
Uzair, 37, an alleged leader of one of the gangs operating in crime-infested Lyari, has been blamed for running a network involved in criminal activities including killings, extortion and drugs business.
The Interpol arrested Uzair from Muscat in December and brought him to Dubai.
Two months after reports of his arrest, the Pakistani government formed a special police team led by SSP Naveed Khwaja, DSP Kharadar Zahid Hussain, and SSP Crime Investigation Department (CID) Usman Bajwa to secure his handover.
