Govt working on 25-year vision to meet major challenges: PM
Nawaz says govt has zero tolerance towards corruption, any official involved in it to be dealt with an iron hand

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that the government of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) was working on a 25-year vision to meet major challenges of energy, economy and terrorism.

He said that this while talking to a delegation of the PML-N lawmakers belonging to Sargodha Division, Bhakkar, Sahiwal and Multan which called on him here at the Prime Minister’s House. The prime minister said that the PML-N government always believed in and focused on economic and infrastructure development in a transparent manner to ensure Pakistan’s progress.

“It is my belief that if we succeed in implementing our agenda, history would remember the PML-N as the party which put Pakistan on the path of progress and development,” he said. He said that strengthening of the economy was his government's topmost priority as increased amount of resources would be generated enabling the country to successfully meet all other challenges.

The prime minister said that it was a matter of satisfaction for the government that there had been no scam or scandal during its tenure. He said that the government had zero tolerance towards corruption and any official found involved in it at any level will be dealt with an iron hand. He said that all economic indicators were giving a positive outlook which was being acknowledged by the international economic institutions.

He mentioned that forex reserves had increased, inflation was reduced and stock exchange reached a record level. He said that the PML-N government took bold steps towards attaining lasting peace and stability in Karachi after having taken all political parties onboard. About the steps being taken by the government to curb terrorism, he said, operation Zarb-e-Azb proved very effective in dismantling the infrastructure and hideouts of terrorists who are on the run.

“I am sure soon the menace of terrorism will be eradicated from the country,” he said. The prime minister said that Islam has disregarded terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and it is binding to eradicate this menace. He said that Pakistan wanted to have good relations with all countries of the region. “Our relations with Afghanistan have considerably improved which would help bring peace in the region,” he added.

Regarding the energy sector, he said that the government was hopeful for adding around 10,000 MW electricity to national grid which included 3000 MW planned to be imported from China and 3600 MW electricity to be produced from LNG-based plants. He said that this additional electricity would be added to the national grid by 2017 so that PML-N may fulfill its promise of overcoming energy shortage in Pakistan.

The prime minister said low cost electricity would be produced and its prices would again be brought down soon to provide relief to the general public. The PML-N lawmakers congratulated the prime minister on making policies which had put Pakistan on the road to progress despite huge challenges. They said because of effective policies of the government, the PML-N candidate was able to win by-election in Nankana with a huge margin.

The legislators also apprised the prime minister of matters pertaining to their areas especially those related to infrastructure development, agriculture, dairy farming, education and health facilities as well as clean drinking water. The delegation comprised Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Muhammad Aminul Hasnat Shah, Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha, Chaudhry Hamid Hameed, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan, Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, Obaid ullah Khan Shadikhel.

Abdul Majeed Khan, Dr Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Chaudhry Muhammad MunirAzhar, Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, Rana Zahid Hussain Khan and JavedAli Shah were also including in the delegation. Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar, MNA and Political Secretary to PM, Dr Asif Kirmani also attended the meeting.
