PM advises President to delay Saulat's hanging by 30 days

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has advised the president to further delay the execution of death row prisoner Saulat Mirza by 30 days, sources told Geo News on Friday.

Death warrants were issued last week for the execution of the triple-murder death row convict to be carried out at 5:30 am on April 1 at the Machh Jail in Balochistan.

In an official letter, the prime minister has now advised the president to delay Saulat Mirza's hanging by a further 30 days.

Mirza is convicted of killing then KESC Managing Director Shahid Hamid, his driver and guard.

Mirza's hanging was previously postponed, after a video confession surfaced in which he alleged that he had received orders to assassinate Hamid from the MQM top leadership — just hours before his scheduled hanging.

Following the allegations, the government decided to re-open the murder case of the former KESC MD.
