PM directs for fast-track completion of projects

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed that steps should be taken for fast-track completion of important projects while ensuring that the unutilised amount is fully utilised.
He made these instructions while chairing a meeting on Monday to review Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) at the PM House.
The prime minister said maximum utilisation of the allocated PSDP funds should be ensured so that development projects are undertaken in all parts of the country benefiting the masses.
In the meeting, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal gave a presentation to the prime minister providing an overview of the PSDP spending during the current financial year as well as proposed allocation for next year including projects which are part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He also briefed the prime minister about LNG based power projects.
PM Nawaz was informed that 72% of the allocated amount of Rs525 billion has been released so far for the projects of the current financial year 2014-15. PM Nawaz further directed that funds be allocated in proper and transparent manner for the projects they are needed the most. He also approved change in the release mechanism of PSDP funds in each quarter of the year for efficient utilisation of resources.
MNA Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar, Aviation Secretary Muhammad Ali Gardezi, Planning and Development Secretary Hassan Nawaz Tarar, Water and Power Secretary Younus Dagha, Housing and Works Secretary Shahrukh Arbab, Railways Secretary Parveen Agha and Acting Secretary Finance Azra Mujtaba attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the prime minister has said that Pakistan’s economic ties and trade linkages with Sri Lanka must be further strengthened for the benefit of the peoples of both the countries. He said this while talking to Pakistan’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Maj Gen (r) Shakeel Hussain who called on him at the PM House on Monday morning. The designated high commissioner thanked the government for reposing confidence in him.
