Court orders Imran to submit reply in ex-CJP's defamation suit
INP

ISLAMABAD – A district and sessions court on Saturday ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to submit reply in defamation suit and compensation claim by former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry until May 16.

Sessions Court Judge Tanvir Meer was hearing the defamation case filed by the former CJP against PTI chairman. Assistant of Khan’s counsel Babar Awan, Khawar Ali Meer filed a plea in the court stating that the sessions court was not authorised to hold hearing of any compensation claim which is more than Rs 20 crore.

He expressed resentment over the plaintiff’s counsel for not submitting court dues of the case. However, ex-CJP’s counsel Sheikh Ahsanuddin said the defense counsel was repeatedly filing pleas regarding court’s jurisdiction, whereas the court has already given verdict over the issue.

Plaintiff’s counsel Taufeeq Asif said that PTI chairman was not interested in submitting reply in the case. The court ordered Imran Khan to submit reply till May 16.
