ATC issues notice over Zulfiqar Mirza’s pleas

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday issued notice to Special Public Prosecutor over pleas filed by counsel for former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza.

The lawyer had filed two pleas, praying the court to appoint “an honest Investigation Officer” and allow his client to record his statement at his residence or the court since he could not visit police station due to threats to his life.

The ATC issued notice to the prosecutor for May 13. Zulfiqar Mirza is on loggerheads with the Pakistan People’s Party c-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for quite some time and has launched verbal salvos against the former president of Pakistan, drawing angry response from the PPP rank and file.

Lately, his spouse and former National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza demanded of the federal government and her successor at the lower house of the Parliament to provide her family adequate security.

NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq is said to have issued instructions to the authorities concerned.
