Sharjeel slams Mirza for making 'obscene' statements

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Monday criticized former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza for what he called ‘obscene’ statements against co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and the Pakistan People's Party.

"I believe this is not politics but obscenity, because the choice of words is very important in politics," he told reporters outside the Sindh Assembly.

The provincial information minister said Mirza should be ashamed of the language he uses.

"Today you are abusing all those who used to be with you. Today you see us as killers, and see all the wrongs and corruption in us. When you were home minister, if you have these stories of murder, then why did you not arrest those criminals then?" he said.

He said that Mirza was intentionally trying to create a false 'charge-sheet' against the PPP, which he said numerous rivals have hurled at the party several times in the past as well.

Sharjeel claimed that television channels had shown the former Sindh home minister forcibly shutting down shops in Badin and entering a police station with armed guards.

He claimed that in the past the Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice when PPP leader Waheeda Shah had shown similar inappropriate behavior.

He said that Mirza had openly challenged the writ of the government, and asked why the higher judiciary does not take suo motu notice of his blatant violation of laws.
