MQM seeks resignation from Sindh Governor

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has sought resignation from Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan after presenting a charge sheet against him.

Addressing a press conference, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar presented a charge sheet against Sindh Governor and said, “if Dr Ebad is sincere, he must tender resignation in protest over atrocities against MQM and join the movement again.”

He said Dr Ebad was offered Governorship in 2002 and he took oath of his office on December 27, 2002, adding that in the beginning Ebad performed better for Sindh province and utilised his energies to redress the issues of masses.

“Ebad utilised his time and energies as per the vision of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain”, he said and added that Sindh Governor was fully supported by Hussain at that time.

Dr Ebad had tendered resignation from the MQM but remained a sympathiser of the party, he added.

Farooq Sattar said that after sometimes the behavior adopted by the Sindh Governor could not be overlooked.

Dr Sattar alleged that killing of MQM workers began after Pakistan People's Party (PPP) came in power in Sindh in 2008. He said genocide of party sympathisers continued and even Muhajir majority areas were attacked, however, Sindh Governor failed to prevent it.

He said party drew Ebad’s attention towards this serious matter, but he remained silent over all these issues.

Sattar went on to say that killers of 1200 workers of MQM were freely roaming in the city. Party offices were being raided, he added.

Earlier, MQM Rabitta Committee held a crucial meeting, simultaneously in Karachi and London on Monday and decided to seek resignation from Dr Ebad.

On April 22, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had disowned Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, saying he had no link with the party anymore.
Speaking to Geo News exclusively, Altaf Hussain said, “Sindh Governor was and is representative of the federation and he has no association with the movement or organization.”
He also urged media not to demonstrate Ebad as representative of MQM in its debates.
MQM chief had said Dr. Ebad never took notice of extra-judicial killings and illegal raids in Karachi, adding that raid was conducted at his (Altaf) home but the Governor did not condemn it.
Altaf asked party workers not to expect any relief and cooperation from Ishratul Ebad Khan and if they are scared they should confine themselves in their homes. He said MQM tolerated operation without any governorship in the past.
