MULTAN: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the Afghan government has assured all possible cooperation for the recovery of his son as well as the son of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.
Talking to media persons at the Multan airport on his return from a visit to Afghanistan, Gilani said he and former president Asif Ali Zardari had gone to Afghanistan to congratulate President Ashraf Ghani and the new Afghan government. He said during the meetings, recovery of the kidnapped people also came under discussion and the Afghan leaders assured their full cooperation. He said that according to intelligence reports, his son Ali Haider Gilani and Salmaan Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer are in Afghanistan.

Asked about Zulfiqar Mirza, the former premier said it’s not a confrontation. However, he said it is a non-issue and the decision over it is to made by the court. He said that on his return from Kabul, he met National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and requested him to provide security to Dr Fehmida Mirza according to her status and former position. To a question, Gilani said that the PPP had already declared the 2013 elections as those of ROs but accepted the results. He said those leaving the PPP are “seasonal birds” and their departure would not affect the party. He said there should be no “running commentary” on the investigation of the judicial commission.

He demanded of the federal government to provide relief to the common man, farmers, labourers and government employees in the next budget. He said he has spoken to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and asked him to complete the unfinished projects that were launched during the PPP government including Multan-Faisalabad Motorway and Cancer Hospital. The former prime minister expressed his grief over the Naltar helicopter tragedy and said they share the grief of the bereaved families. He welcomed the appointment of Rafiq Rajwana as Governor and hoped that he would play a role to remove the backwardness of Southern Punjab.
