ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsman Salman Farooqi has decided to set up complaint cells soon at the country’s embassies in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Saudi Arabia to address the complaints of Pakistani expatriates, and efforts are underway to provide the same facility in other countries as well. The complaints cells would be connected Online with office of the Ombudsman in Islamabad, which would ensure that the complaints were referred to the federal agency concerned for redressal without delay, said the Grievance Commissioner Office, sources said on Sunday. A special meeting of Foreign Office officials at the Ombudsman office in a few days would discuss the matter and decide about the final date and time when such complaints cells would be operative. When questioned, the sources said the Federal Ombudsman had received 176,000 complaints pertaining to different federal departments during the last two years and at present the pendency was zero which indicated the commitment to resolve grievances of overseas Pakistanis. That was the reason Grievance Commissioner Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmad Khokhar, Senior Adviser Law, had been appointed to specifically focus on redressing thecomplaints of expatriates. The Ombudsman Office was also planning to open One-Window facility at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi airports very soon for tacking complaints of the overseas Pakistanis and providing them needed information on their arrival, the sources added.
