Model Town tragedy : PAT announces protests against JIT report
Online

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri said that his party will not forget the martyrs of the Model Town incident and not rest in peace until the culprits responsible for the tragedy are hanged.

Speaking to the PAT Consultative Council via video link, he said the blood of “our workers is not that cheap that anyone can come and spill it and go scot-free”.

Dr Tahirul Qadri said that the world was surprised about how the Joint Investigative Team (JIT) had manipulated the facts and by doing so it had taken out the funeral procession of justice. He thanked the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, civil society members, leaders of like-minded parties, TV anchorpersons and newsmen for raising their voice against the false JIT report which is a million miles from the actual facts.

He said it was shameful the way the JIT had given the culprits a clean chit is condemnable. He added at the same time “we are in court for the last many months to get a copy of the Judicial Commission’s report on the Model Town incident but the government is trying its level best to somehow conceal the report and is using delaying tactics”.

The PAT chairman said, “Where should we go in search of justice?” He added eventually the time for PAT has come to start street agitation. All PAT and Minajul Quran workers countrywide have been instructed to come out on the streets and peacefully register their protest, he added. He said rallies will be taken out from every city of the country and the world will be made aware of the manipulation of the Punjab government in getting the JIT report serving its vested interest.

He demanded that the case should be sent to a military court as “the courts have let us and the families down whose loved ones were killed by police firing. “We feel like being cheated by the JIT,” he added.
