*Conference will be held at PM House on May 28 * PM orders quick start of work on Diamer-Bhasha Dam

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned an All Parties Conference (APC) again on Thursday, May 28, to take the political leadership of the country into confidence over the route of the planned China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the local media quoted sources as saying on Friday.

According to reports, the APC will take place 8pm on May 28 at the Prime Minister House in which political leaders will be consulted regarding the route of the economic corridor being built with the Chinese investment.

Political leaders have formally been invited to the APC by the prime minister. The original APC remained inconclusive due to the Safoora Chowrangi attack on the Shia Ismaili community, killing dozens. In the said conference, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal briefed the participants but the conference failed to address the concerns of the political leaders.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed that acquisition of land for Diamer-Bhasha Dam should be made by July 31 this year to start the project of immense national importance.

He said that work should be started on this power project as soon as possible.

Chairing the 14th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy at the PM House, the prime minister asked the WAPDA chairman to present a complete project proposal with timelines in the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy.

The WAPDA chairman updated the meeting on matters relating to Diamer-Bhasha hydroelectric power generation project.

The prime minister ordered to form a parliamentary committee for holding an inquiry into suspected irregularities committed in purchase of land for Diamer-Bhasha project.

The meeting, which lasted for more than three hours, was given a detailed presentation on load management and recoveries by the water and power secretary.

The meeting was informed that this year, average duration load shedding in urban areas was six hours, while in the rural areas it was eight hours, with the exception of those areas where recoveries are too less.
