‘EC has failed to address PTI concerns over polls rigging’
Online

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Jahangir Tareen on Saturday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not removed his party’s reservations over rigging during the 2013 general elections.

“Huge facts are coming out with the establishment of the Judicial Commission (JC). The conspiracy involving the thumb impressions on ballot papers should be exposed,” he said while talking to media on Saturday after his participation in a ceremony at the Sir Syed Memorial University.

Jahangir said that it is matter of regret that EC has not addressed “our concerns on vote fraud”. He went on to say that PTI had provided a list of 14 witnesses to EC but it was curtailed later because the decision for calling the witnesses is taken by the legal team. JC can record evidence via video conferencing, he said. He alleged that MNAs from other parties are running their election campaign openly but no notices were issued to them. Naturally questions are being raised on the role of EC, he added.

The PTI secretary general stressed that former NADRA chairman Tariq Malik must be summoned before the inquiry commission. It is JC which will decide about calling Tariq Malik for recording his evidence. “Why National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has scolded FAFEN chief Mudassar Rizvi on presenting a report. Who has authorised him to give order to the chief of a private institution,” he inquired.

The interior minister had said that there was no need of magnetic ink but now the conspiracy involving the thumb impressions vis-à-vis rigging in the polls should be exposed and decision should come before the entire nation, he underlined. To a question he said that intra-party polls would be held by PTI soon because such steps strengthen the party.
