Model Town incident: Imran terms JIT report unjust and unlawful
* Says investigating team has not acted in a fair manner while probing the incident
INP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Saturday termed the final report of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Model Town tragedy as height of injustice.
In a statement on a social media, Imran said that declaring Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah innocent in the Model Town tragedy is absolutely a violation of law. He stated that the investigating team has shown biased behaviour in probing the incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that the JIT report pertains to the June 17, 2014 tragedy in Model Town, Lahore. On that fateful day as result of clashes between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and police force as many as 14 persons were killed and about 90 injured over the issue of removing ‘encroachments’ outside the residence of PAT Chairman Tahirul Qadri.
Meanwhile, PTI chief Imran Khan on Saturday announced interim organisational structure for the party, adding that improved party elections will take place following the report by Justice Wajihuddin. He said that the new set-up is temporary.
He said that Dr Arif Alvi has been made the organiser in Sindh and Chaudhry Sarwar in Punjab. He said that irregularities took place in the previous party election as noted in the report by Justice (r) Wajihuddin. He said it is highly likely that general elections might take place before the party election. Addressing a media conference after party’s session in Islamabad, Imran said that Punjab former governor Chaudhry Sarwar has been made Punjab’s organiser, Dr Arif Alvi as Sindh’s while Azhar Farooq has been made party’s organiser for Islamabad. He added that Yousuf Ayub and Humayun Jogizai would be organisers of PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan respectively.
The PTI chairman said he has sought timeframe for party election from Tasnim Noorani.
He said that a political cell would also be established to identify candidates for the next elections. He said a musical chair is going on in Pakistan. He said that those who claimed to recover money from former president Asif Ali Zardari by tearing apart his abdomen have now developed a nexus with him.
