ISLAMABAD - Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif enjoying overwhelming support of the people who had given him heavy mandate.

The prime minister, who had already faced accountability thrice, presented himself again for fourth time, he said while talking to a private TV channel. The minister said common people did not want any crisis in the country. They only desired economic stability. Foreign exchange reserves were at unprecedented level and the government was fulfilling its responsibilities for economic growth, he said.

He said the judicial commission would consist of serving judges of the Supreme Court while the ministers would have no role in the accountability process. The federal government had already written a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) in that regard, he said.

The minister said the leaders of some countries had resigned as charges levelled against them in the Panama Papers had been proved. Whereas no such allegations were levelled against the prime minister and his sons, he said, adding that only information was given that the prime minister's sons were doing business.

Responding to a question, he said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had supported democracy not Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government during sit-ins of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

He said it was collective responsibility of political parties to work for strengthening democracy. The PPP had performed its duty by supporting the democratic system and hopefully it would pursue the same policy in future also. He said no party had accused the prime minister of framing the Terms of References (TORs) of judicial commission for his personal benefit.

He said ‘ATMs’ (auto teller machines) of PTI Chairman Imran Khan would soon land in jail for devouring people’s small savings. Jehangir Khan Tareen had refused to appear before the Supreme Court as he knew that he was a culprit, he alleged.
