Army chief reaches China, to meet military leadership

ISPR says General Sharif will also meet China’s political leadership

BEIJING: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif is on a two-day official visit to China, where he is scheduled to meet senior political and military leadership, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

Soon after his arrival here in the Chinese capital, General Sharif called on People's Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Force Commander General Li Zuocheng at his office. The army chief was presented a guard of honour upon his arrival, the statement said.

During the Sharif-Li meeting, matters pertaining to military cooperation, enhanced military training exchanges, and security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were discussed. Also, the meeting discussed possibility of increasing defence, technology and intelligence-sharing between the two countries.

The army chief congratulated his Chinese counterpart on assuming command of the newly-established Army Headquarters.
