ISLAMABAD: Senate whole committee on Thursday adopted elections reforms reports with few amendments to consider mode of elections of members of senate.

The committee recommended that the Senate elections should be done through secret ballet but to curb the horse trading, the ballet paper of any member can be checked on request of any other respective party member in case of doubt.

The committee further suggested that if found guilty, the membership of the particular person would be annulled according to rules. The committee further suggested that to increase powers of senate a separate strategy should be adopted.

The committee, which held under the chairmanship of Senator Raza Rabbani, accepted the amendment proposed by Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari that the senate members nominations should be particularly from the specific federating unit with the residential proof of at least five years.

He also proposed that Islamabad members should be considered through presidential orders as the procedure followed for the members of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). For independent candidates, the proposer and the seconder should also be independent members, the committee further recommended.

Later, Senator Rabbani announced that the report would be presented in the upper house on Friday and for their proposals and opinions. Earlier, he informed the body that the first meeting of the committee was held on the issue on November 11, 2015 and the second meeting on May 12 and so far 37 members have presented their suggestions.
