WASHINGTON: A Pakistani entrepreneur Dr Shahid Mahmud, chief executive officer of Interactive Group, a major ICT company in Pakistan, has received ‘Distinguished Fellow Award 2016’. Eisenhower Fellowships has honoured Dr Shahid Mahmud, with its award.

The prize is an annual recognition of an Eisenhower Fellow who has made a significant contribution to his or her field and to the EF global network of nearly 1,500 active fellows.

Dr Mahmud came to the United States on his Eisenhower Fellowship in 2001. “His deep sense of service is equaled only by his boundless generosity and his commitment to collaborating with others to help better society,” said Gov Christine Todd Whitman, chair of the executive committee of the EF board of trustees.

“We celebrate his dedication to enriching our world and the EF network by finding new paths to confront new and daunting challenges,” Whitman added.

As CEO of Interactive Group, Dr Mahmud leads a company that has pioneered the development of Pakistan’s telecommunications, wireless, IT and media infrastructure.

He has served on myriad federal committees of the government of Pakistan, helping formulate and implement national telecom and IT policy.

Dr Mahmud is active in numerous philanthropic activities, working with youth-oriented, and community service projects. After the devastating 2005 earthquake in the Kashmir region of the country, he played a major role in shaping a disaster emergency plan.

For the last several years, Dr Mahmud has collaborated with another prominent EF Pakistani Fellow, Dr Abdul Bari Khan, to extend the good work of Indus Hospital in Karachi.

“Dr Shahid Mahmud is an extraordinary leader, a visionary innovator who represents the best of Eisenhower Fellowships,” said George de Lama, president of Eisenhower Fellowships.

“He is a leader among leaders, a passionate advocate of the power of people of good faith working together to replace confrontation with understanding,” the president added.
