Met office warns of blistering heat, mercury to reach 51oC

ISLAMABAD: The Met Office issued fair warning of a heat wave during the upcoming week all over the country. In a statement, Met Office said that plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh will bear the brunt of a heat wave, with day temperatures exceeding 45oC. Certain parts of the country are expected to reach up to 51oC, a private news channel reported.

The temperature in mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will also rise by approximately 5oC, resulting in the rapid melting of snow and glaciers. The recorded temperature in major cities on Wednesday was as follows: Temperature of some major cities recorded on Wednesday morning were Islamabad 19 degree centigrade, Lahore and Karachi 29, Peshawar 25, Quetta 18, Gilgit 14, Murree 17 and Muzaffarabad 20 degree centigrade.
