Nisar questions US drone strike in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The drone strike carried out by the United States is illegal and against Pakistan’s sovereignty, Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here at the Punjab House, Nisar said the federal government could not officially confirm the death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhrat Mansour.

“The Taliban leader is dead according to several sources in the US and Afghanistan. Pakistan, however, will confirm the death after the DNA test of the deceased.”

He said that three people were killed in a US drone strike that took place outside Balochistan. “Their bodies were badly burnt and the authorities weren’t able to identify them.”

The minister said that the Taliban leader had travelled to Iran, Afghanistan and Dubai but “he wasn’t targeted there”. “Why was he (Mansour) attacked in Pakistan?” he questioned.

He said US policy of attacking enemies anywhere was unacceptable, adding that the first phase of peace talks was sabotaged after the death of Mullah Mohammad Omar.
